I had this blog on my RSS feeds and I had enjoyed it for several years, even occasionally contributing. The sudden disappearance was jarring, to say the least. I had given Ms. Adams the highest of personal marks for her thorough reporting of a subject that seems to be nearly impossible to report on without generating intense reactions in any direction. Through all of the mists and fogs of misunderstanding, propaganda and out and out prejudice and hatred that polygamy seems to conjure, Ms. Adams seemed to be the single dependable voice where one could hear a reasonable facsimile of the truth and whose vision seemed to cut through the fog. I had no idea what had happened, I even looked through the Trib proper to see if there had been a personnel change there, half afraid of what I might find.

I drove through the Twin Towns last summer on my way to raft the Grand Canyon again and was struck by the deserted look of the place, like the occupants have either fled or gone to ground, much different than earlier visits on the way to other raft trips in the Canyon. I still keep my RSS feeds and my Google Alerts active on the subject, but it feels like with Brooke's absence and the spotlight attention of the national media melting into boredom that the people of polygamy have once again faded from public view much like after the Short Creek Raid in the fifties. Maybe that's not such a bad thing, maybe these people need to be left to themselves more and out of the view of prying eyes, like mine.

At any rate, I thank you, Ms. Adams, for keeping us well and unbiasedly informed on a subject that probably beyond a certain level is really none of our business anyway. I wonder what the polygamists in my family background would think of the resurgence and subsequent subsidence of interest in their lifestyle in recent years. They'd probably be appalled at how so many people have reacted so intensely and so negatively with such bitterness and bias. But then again, some of the people that have been reported on have been pretty appalling themselves. It's a very complex issue that I've come to realize just doesn't involve me much personally, even as much as I find it fascinating. But then, fires are fascinating as well, and as I spent my professional life fighting them tooth and nail I've often wondered why non-firefighters seem fascinated by them. Maybe I have my answer

Too bad it is all over. But, as Will Sheffer said, don't take the show as a glimpse into the real lives of Mormon Fundamentalists. Or, Mormons for that matter. I have been both, and it was painfully obvious that they didn't have a Mormon or Mormon Fundamentalist on staff to review the dialog and fix all the things that Mormons/Mormon Fundamentalists wouldn't say or do.

Bill Paxton's character was also as ignorant of his religion, and Mormonism, as they come as to being a supposed Mormon Fundamentalist.

It could have been really good. But, has turned out to be just so so.

Big Love has turned out to be a big disappointment. Bill Henrickson started out as a nice guy. But he was turned into a big jerk. The lead character in any show cannot be so despicable. What a disppointmment this series turned out to be.

Well, you know what the famous Forrest Gump said:

"Stupid is as stupid does".

Definition of insanity: Repeating the same mistakes which didn't work in earlier times.
